Direct Tax Code Bill and its impact on the NGO sector

The direct tax code bill, to be made applicable to all organisations working as non-profit entities, contains several unacceptable provisions as pointed out in the memorandum, including:

•    inconsistent procedure for determining income
•    withdrawal of benefit of saving 15% of income every year
•    prohibition on investment in financial assets
•    disallowance of depreciation
•    restriction on incidental business activity
•    restrictions on tax incentives to donor
