The ministry of urban development has decided to appoint independent quality monitors for projects sanctioned under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). 

 The government is planning to amend the Special Marriage Act and relevant laws to curb the menace of honour killings of young couples, which have seen a spurt in recent months.

 The second phase of panchayat elections in Haryana will be held on July 6 and 10, 2010 across eight districts-Panchkula, Gurgaon, Rohtak and Panipat districts will go to polls on July 6, and Karnal, Rewari, Yamuna Nagar and Hisar on July 10.

 The Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill, 2010, has been redrafted to empower victims of communal violence to “have rights relating to having access to information of proceedings and legal documents and to participate and to be heard at all stages of registration, investigation and trial” of cases.

The Gujarat government plans to supply pre-mix foods with micronutrients through 44,000 anganwadis in the state, with the aim of improving the health of malnourished children. The pre-mix will be a mixture of soybean, cereals and pulses, containing 18-20% protein.

The Bill for regulating clinical establishments to ensure safer health practices will be passed by Parliament in the coming monsoon session, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said. The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on May 3, 2010.

For the first time in Independent India, enumeration of  OBCs  will be included in the census exercise. The Congress-led UPA, under pressure from various political parties representing  OBC interests, gave in to their demand for census enumeration on May 7.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on May 3, 2010 after Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh accepted some key amendments were suggested in Parliament.

At the inauguration of the ‘National Panchayati Raj Day’ function on April 24, 2010 in New Delhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh gave away awards to six states, namely Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Sikkim for best implementation of the Panchayat Empowerment & Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS).
