US aims to launch an online portal to held Indian Americans safely donate funds to NGOs back home.
At the initiative of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the State Department is in the final stages of launching the ambitious website.
This website is envisaged to smoothen the process of donation by doing away with the strain of identifying credible and genuine NGOs. It is scheduled to be launched in late April or early May
"Right now there are a lot of people, who want to help, want to give back, but it's not as easy as it should be," Mitul Desai, Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships in the US Department of State's South & Central Asian Bureau, told PTI in an interview.
All the NGOs listed on the site would be certified by a third party and FCRA complaint.
Initially it would start with online donations, but overtime it could offer more tangible things and services too. |
