Unicef has partnered with CSO Partners to launch a child rights project in Tamil Nadu   -   29th Mar 2012

Unicef, in partnership with CSO Partners, has launched a project to foster business participation in the protection and promotion of child rights in Tamil Nadu. A one-of-a-kind initiative, this project aims to build awareness among business houses in Tamil Nadu with focus on the industrial hubs in and around Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Salem. As children constitute an important stakeholder group for business as future employees and future markets it makes good business sense for them to invest in the development of Children.

The project has been designed to build awareness and sensitise business leaders and CSR teams on child rights. Businesses will be motivated to take up CSR interventions with a clear child rights focus. Where businesses are already doing CSR programmes, they will be encouraged to relook at it from a Child Rights lens.

The project will also work towards institutionalising a process for long term and sustained involvement of businesses in the protection and promotion of child rights. Towards this end, it will facilitate the formation of a multi stakeholder coalition consisting of leading businesses houses, business federations, government and civil society representatives. The coalition will act as a think tank and advocacy body to sustain and deepen the engagement of businesses on the issue of child rights.
