The second phase of panchayat elections in Haryana will be held on July 6 and 10, 2010 across eight districts-Panchkula, Gurgaon, Rohtak and Panipat districts will go to polls on July 6, and Karnal, Rewari, Yamuna Nagar and Hisar on July 10.
Elections will be held in two phases to elect 2,112 sarpanchs (headmen) of village panchayats, 20,169 panches (council members), 980 members of panchayat samitis (council committees) and 130 members of zila parishads (district-level bodies.
In the fourth general election of the panchayati raj institutions (PRI) in the state, around 3,504,276 voters are expected to go to polls. Approximately 8,000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used for the elections.
Earlier, panchayat elections held in 13 other districts; Ambala, Bhiwani, Fatehabad, Faridabad, Jind, Jhajjar, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Mahendergarh (at Narnaul), Sirsa, Sonepat, Mewat (at Nuh) and Palwal on June 6 and 12 , registered 70% polling, but was marked by widespread post-poll violence at various places. Six people were killed in post-poll violence. |
